Why a card game is the best stocking stuffer
- It fits: a small box that slides into any stocking or coat pocket.
- It is for everyone: teens, adults, kids from 7, so one gift covers the whole stocking line-up.
- It is used right away: Christmas is the one day the whole family sits at the same table with nothing to do.
- It lasts: rounds take about 8 minutes, so it travels to New Year’s Eve, ski trips and the next family birthday.
- No screens, no batteries, no app to install.

How Schnitzel™ plays in 60 seconds
Everyone gets 4 face-down cards and peeks at 2 of them. On your turn you draw a card or take the top of the discard pile and swap it into your row, or throw it away. The goal is the lowest total, so you want to get rid of the 9s and 10-point action cards and keep the -5s and 0s.
Discarded action cards can be used straight away: Peek at your own card, Spy on everyone else, Swap blind with an opponent, Attack someone with an extra card, or Overwrite your whole hand with theirs. When you think you are lowest, yell “SCHNITZEL!” and everyone gets one last turn. Unless someone plays a Nope.
And there is the X: one card worth 666 points that ends the game the moment it shows up.
Who it is a good stocking stuffer for
1. Teens
Teens are hard to buy for and allergic to “family games”. Schnitzel works because it is mean in a fun way: blind swaps, sabotage, and the 666-point X card. Teens love a game where they can beat their parents.
2. Men and dads
For the person who says they want nothing: a game that takes zero setup and ends with someone yelling a German word at the table. Great for the dad who quietly loves to win.
3. Women, mums and grandparents
The rules are simple enough to learn in one round, and memory beats luck, so grandparents are often the ones to watch out for.
4. Kids from 7
Numbers from -5 to 9 make it a sneaky maths game. There is a kids rule: players under 10 may look at their own cards when it is not their turn.
Stocking stuffer tips
- Order early: shipping slows down every December. Aim to order by early December for delivery before Christmas.
- Put it in the first stocking that gets opened, so the game is on the table before lunch.
- Pair it with a scorepad and a pen; families like to keep a running total over the holidays.
One small box, a whole Christmas afternoon of game time.
